This picture of the white-tailed eagle was taken during a demonstration by the Herrmann falconry in Plauen. I took a lot of pictures of different birds of prey that day. However, very, very few of them have become anything. When it comes to animal photography, I lack a lot of practice, the right technique and the right equipment. These animals are just so fast that you really only have your finger on the trigger. My old and slow Tamron telephoto lens was also hopelessly overwhelmed here. Nevertheless, I'm happy that a few pictures have become acceptable to me, including this one.
I can only recommend you all, use the sunny autumn days and visit the Herrmann falconry, it is always a pleasure to experience these interesting animals and the falconers at work and during their entertaining demonstrations. So much knowledge and love for the birds that is conveyed to the visitors here is simply a pleasure. Definitely a highlight for me and every year.

The European bald eagle, also known as the white-tailed eagle or Haliaeetus albicilla, is an impressive bird species native to Europe. With an imposing size, distinctive white head and powerful yellow beak, it is a symbol of strength and grandeur.
The European bald eagle has a wingspan of up to 2.5 meters and can reach a body size of up to 1 meter. Its impressive appearance and majestic flight make it a fascinating sight. The adult birds have dark brown plumage that turns white on the head and tail, creating the distinctive white head that gives them their name.
The bald eagle lives near bodies of water such as lakes, rivers or coastal areas as it mainly feeds on fish. Its keen vision allows it to seek out prey from great heights and then attack with great precision. It is a skilled hunter and diver, capable of pouncing on its prey in flight and grasping it with its powerful claws.
Reproduction of the European bald eagle usually takes place in large tree canopies that are close to bodies of water. The female usually lays two to three eggs, from which the chicks hatch after an incubation period of about 40 days. Both parent birds take an active part in raising the young, providing food and shelter.
The European bald eagle is not only an impressive bird, but also a symbol for nature conservation and the preservation of biodiversity. Due to habitat loss, pollution and illegal hunting, the population of the bald eagle has been severely threatened. However, thanks to extensive protective measures and nature conservation projects, its population has been able to increase again in recent decades.
The sight of a European bald eagle in the wild is a rare and special experience. Its majestic presence and impressive flying skills attract bird watchers and nature lovers alike. Many sanctuaries and nature reserves offer opportunities to view these impressive birds and learn more about their lifestyle and conservation.
